TAYLORVILLE— Seth McMillan, a small business owner and teacher from Taylorville was joined by family and supporters today as he announced his candidacy for the Republican nomination in the 48th Senate District in the Illinois State Senate.

McMillan says he’s running for the Senate because Illinois government is dysfunctional and needs a new direction. “Illinois is a state that taxes too much and spends too much. We need policies that will give families and businesses a reason to stay,” said McMillan. “That starts by working toward a better business climate that fosters small businesses, entrepreneurs, and innovation.”

Seth McMillan is a Taylorville native who returned home after college to start his own small business, the McMillian Landscape Company, in his parent’s garage. He has grown the business into one of the largest landscaping and nursery companies in the area, employing more than a dozen and operating a retail nursery and greenhouse in Taylorville.

“Too many career politicians have done nothing to improve the economy in central Illinois,” said McMillan. “There’s no way the politicians in Springfield can justify raising taxes 32% without any spending cuts.”

In the Senate, Seth McMillan will prioritize cutting non-essential state spending, improving the business climate, providing fair funding for schools, and enacting term limits and independent redistricting.

He is a member of the United Methodist Church, and active in the Taylorville Optimists Club, Taylorville FFA Alumni and the Christian County NRA affiliate. He currently serves as Chairman of the Christian County Republican Party. Seth lives in rural Taylorville with his wife, Mellisa, and their two children.

The 48th Senate District includes portions of Christian, Macon, Macoupin, Madison, Montgomery, and Sangamon Counties. It includes Decatur, Springfield, Taylorville, Carlinville, Litchfield, and Hillsboro.
